Social issues in Chile today

Chile today is not the same forty years ago. His economic growth has changed the society and his behavior. The chileans became consumist. Our country its called in route to development, we build enormous buildings, highway, malls. However still keeping and increase the inequality. Under a free market logical, our values has changed too. The individualism, the egoism, the competition and ambition are the virtues of today.
In this sense the inequalities in the system been generated discontent. In recent years we have seen a social wakeup, the people are willing to demonstrate and say what they want and do not want. The students protest march are a proof, his demands have focused the government agend. But is not the only social movement, people are flocking around issues and conflicts that are part, such as the environment, decent jobs, animal rights, sexual freedom or respect for indigenous people.
Regarding protests, the government has allowed and encouraged the excessive use of police force, this has meant that the marches in the streets turn into battles harming surrounding neighborhood, public infrastructure, and public safety.

Other social issues that have transcended the legislative sphere are tragic cases like Kevin Silva child who went to a marathon and was hit by a car whose driver was drunk, the boy survived but lost his legs, this created great national commotion which led to be quickly approved a law called "zero tolerance", which requires to have zero blood alcohol for driving. Another case was the Daniel Zamudio, a young gay man who was attacked and killed by a group of homophobic. Like the previous case caused great commotion which led to adopt anti-discrimination law, "law Zamudio", which not only protects homosexuals, but to all those who in any way may be violated in whole or discrimination.

Santiago City

Santiago it´s my city, I born and lived here mi entire life. This city it’s very interesting for my. It´s so fascinating because has a lots expression of social, cultural, and territorial phenomenons.
It is characterized by being a little chaotic, horrible traffic, crime and marked social differences. But it also has features that make it attractive and beautiful. Like the colonial architecture of the historic center, the San Cristobal hill for many santiaguinos has been complicit in our romances and has a magic that being there can feel giant looking almost the entire city. Within the city there are many beautiful and special places. Thanks to its architecture evoke the past and make you travel back in time, as the Lastarria´s neighborhood, Paris and London streets or New York street. Travel Santiago is an adventure.
Sometimes we forget that our city is surrounded by natural beauty extremely beautiful, maybe we smog obscures the beautiful landscape that is imposed in the east, the Andes Mountains.
But there are things I do not like for example public transport, is very unpleasant move in Santiago by bus or subway because in the rush hour is a collapse, even if you hang in your car, which is not cheap since fuel is expensive and also have to pay to use the roads if you want to move with greater agility, however these same collapse. I think this defect Santiago expresses a feature that highlights people who visit this city and we are always in a hurry and backward.
Despite this, in contrast to other people who do not like Santiago, I love to live in this city.

“Great Expectations”

This is a novel written by Charles Dickens in 1860. It´s one of the most important and famous works by Dickens, was adapted to plays and movies. It´s about a boy named Phillip Pirrip, called “Pip”. He is an orphan and lives with his sister and her husband. Later he had a benefactor who pays his education like a gentleman, but Pip didn’t know who this man was. This young man, fight for to be a person with most class like a gentleman to conquer Stella, she was his first and big love. He don´t like her, and married another man, but he died and finally on the novel Pip and Stella walked together taken hands, given us a great expectation to love.

Unfortunately I didn’t know this novel. In the school I don´t read this classic. But now I’m very interested. Seems a very passionate and intense story, I like the dramatic romance because the emotions are more stronger and the feeling of love is more pure.

I have a many "great expectations" for this semester, in the university I expect finally end my classes, because for many reasons I been delayed. So now I just want end this semester. In my family I’m so happy because every day I can see how grow my little daughter. She is so beatiful, when she smiles I forget all my worries. In the romance, I just expect what now I have, a life full of love and endearment.
